Recycling 151: Program Evaluation
Instructors: Mike Crist and Tim Breneisen
Critical evaluation should be a part of every recycling program. Many programs operate for years never knowing whether or not the program is as efficient and cost-effective as it can be, and whether or not the program is truly serving the purpose for which it was designed. This course will define critical evaluation and explain its importance to successful recycling program administration. An explanation will be given on how to plan and establish evaluating procedures, who should be involved, and what should be done with the evaluation results.
Upon completion of this course, participants receive a Penn State certificate verifying .2 CEUs earned toward re-certification.
Note: This course is being held during the annual PROP conference. Register here.

Recycling 223: Aerated Static Piles/Food Composting
Instructors: Craig Coker and Terry Keene
This course has been developed for experienced composters (municipal, farm, non-profit, or for-profit) who would like to expand beyond the basics of leaf and yard waste composting into food residuals, manures, and other challenging materials. Composting with forced aeration has some big advantages over traditional turned piles. You use fans and pipes instead of expensive windrow turners, allowing for increased volume on the same size pad with better odor control, lowering your per unit production cost. This class will explain the differences between the systems, how you figure fan size and piping, what kind of environmental protection and permitting you need. Upon completion of this course, participants receive a Penn State certificate verifying .2 CEUs earned toward re-certification.
Note: This course is being held during the annual PROP conference. Register here.
